For over 50 years Bovano has produced stunning wall art and accessories using the process of "enameling" to bring vivid colors and style to metal sculpture.
The crafting of Bovano works of art is a meticulous, time-consuming process. Once each creation is designed, its production requires hundreds of separate procedures, painstaking skill, and attention to detail.
The centuries-old enameling process is begun by placing finely ground glass powder on solid copper shapes. Several different glass powders are used in combination to create individual colors, shadings, and coatings. Each piece is then heated to 1600 degrees F, resulting in a smooth, richly-colored glass coating on the copper. Finally, the separate pieces are assembled, using delicate welding techniques, into the completed sculptures. Because there is no painting involved in the Bovano process, the vibrant colors of these works of art will last indefinitely.
