founded in 1987 by Jim and Judy Kell and Jim's mother,
Barbara Joy Morris. They moved to St. Augustine, Florida, in 1986, leaving their native California to seek a more relaxed lifestyle. organization she had founded; and Barbara sold Down by
the Sea, a gift store she owned in Old Sacramento
California. All three were attracted to the clean air, slow pace and beautiful surroundings afforded by the nation's oldest city. They were charmed by the cobblestone streets, the colonial Spanish and English architecture, and the horse-drawn carriages peacefully roaming the streets. To top it all off, the area boasts some of the greatest beaches one could imagine. By chance they met a metal sculptor who introduced them to the world of three-dimensional art. They were so impressed with his work, they opened a small gallery devoted exclusively to his sculptures. The gallery, located on the world famous St. George Street in the center of the city's historic district, was successful from the very beginning. It soon became apparent that more space was needed, so they moved the gallery to a larger building, located at 76 St. George Street. Over time, the number of artists they represented grew to over thirty. In 1995 their dream of publishing a catalog was realized when the first edition of The Secret Cove On-line Catalog was introduced on the Internet. From its modest beginnings of about 20 items, the catalog has grown to hundreds of items. The company moved its catalog operations to California in 1999 to be closer the high-tech community that was fueling the rapid expansion of the Internet. In the fall of 2005, in recognition that The Secret Cove was now serving a national market, Jim and Judy decided to close the St. George Street gallery and focus the company's resources on expanding its catalog operations.
